Peter Husband
A strong work ethic has always been second nature to Peter Husband. It was how he was raised - to work hard, be there for your team, and be proud of what you do. And in his job as a street cleaner at Charters Tower Regional Council, people are taking notice.
Peter was nominated by another Council employee for his positive attitude, high standard of work, and his ability to work in a team.
Peter was about the only person surprised to hear he had been nominated.
“It was a shock. I didn’t expect to get a tap on the shoulder. I don’t come to work expecting praise for doing my job; I give it my all because living in a community I’m proud of is important to me.”
Peter was one of the first people to be nominated for embodying Council’s values. Those who know and work with him truly appreciate what he brings to the team and the difference he makes in the community.
MAKING CHARTERS TOWERS SHINE
Peter has been with the Charters Towers Regional Council for 13 years. He is a true unsung hero and works tirelessly to make sure residents are proud of the town and visitors have a positive first impression of the area.
“We all have a responsibility to make the world a better and happier place. It can be tough, so I choose to smile and live on the bright side of life.”
Peter’s warmth is genuine, and he chuckles when he recalls a conversation he had with a couple of out-of-towners a few years back.
“They thanked me and told me the public toilets in Charters Towers were the cleanest dunnies in Australia. I think that’s really something great.”
Peter doesn’t just help keep Charters Towers tidy, he makes sure it shines.
THE VALUE OF VALUES
Peter understands the role pride, accountability, and honesty play in a connected team and community.
“There will always be things we disagree on because we’re human. But if we can talk openly and with respect, we are going to be better for it. When you’re proud of what you do and where you live, it makes life easier, and who doesn’t want that?”
Peter said for a team to succeed, they need to keep moving forward together.
“By doing so, we need to recognise each other’s achievements and what’s working well. We also need to make sure we never stop finding ways to improve and work better together.”
A SON OF CHARTERS TOWERS
Peter and his family have called Charters Towers home for four generations.
“I have fond memories growing up and living here. Our town isn’t perfect, but if you ask me, it’s pretty bloody close. I’ve seen it grow and develop, but one thing stays the same, it’s still a great place to live and to raise a family. I want everyone who lives in Charters Towers to be proud of where they live and work.”
Peter loves Charters Towers and takes great pride in ensuring everyone else does too.
People like Peter are the lifeblood of the community and their tireless work behind the scenes makes sure Charters Towers continues to be a great place to live.
The next time you’re out-and-about, take a moment to look around and appreciate the pride and dedication that goes into preserving our wonderful community. And if you happen to see Peter, stop and thank him for what he does to help Charters Towers shine.
Congratulations again, Peter. You truly are a Charters Towers Values Champion.
