Equestrian Centre

In 2003, the Dalrymple Arenas (commonly known as the Dalrymple Equestrian Centre) was completed and officially opened by the then Member for Charters Towers, Mrs Christine Scott MP.  The complex contains a Rodeo Arena and full sized Equestrian Ring built to Australian Campdraft Association standards.

The complex contains a canteen, toilet facilities, bar facilities, secretary's office and an announcer's box under the covered area.  Public seating is available for both areas.

The Rodeo Arena has been used for the purpose of holding rodeos and for horse sports activities.  One of Council's main concerns in the construction of such a facility was to enable young people to enjoy horse sports out of the North Queensland sun.

The Rodeo Arena is a multi-purpose facility and has been used to host a film festival, book launch and dinner for over 300 people.

In addition to the Arenas being hired by various community organisations for hosting of scheduled events, Council also allows access to same for non-scheduled events for recreational horse riding and training purposes.

Due to legal liability considerations, the Arenas are generally locked when not hired for scheduled events.

Access for non-scheduled events may be secured by issue of an "Access Card".

Approval for the issue of an Access Card is subject to conditions which are available by downloading the Application Form.
