Charters Towers Showground

Please Note:

The Charters Towers Showground (CTS) opens as an Overflow Camping Area during peak tourist season. Council may consider opening the Charters Towers Showgrounds for overflow camping only when all powered sites at caravan parks within Charters Towers are fully occupied.  

The provision of overflow camping remains at Council's discretion and is not guaranteed. 

Travellers should not rely on the Showgrounds for accommodation and are encouraged to arrange accommodation in advance, particularly during the peak tourism season (April - September).

When open, the Overflow Camping Area is available for self-contained RVs, caravans, camper trailers, and tents. Bookings are essential and only available on the day of arrival. It is not possible to pre-book sites.

For year-round options, we recommend contacting one of the three caravan parks within Charters Towers City: Charters Towers Tourist Park (4787 7944), Dalrymple Tourist Van Park (4787 1121), and Big 4 Aussie Oasis Outback Holiday Park (4787 8722).
 

Ravenswood Showground (Recreation Reserve)

Council allows camping at the Ravenswood Showgrounds/Camping Reserve. The fees are as follows (current for 2026/2027):

  • $17 Per site per day (unpowered site)
  • $85 Per vehicle per week (unpowered site)
  • $25 Per site per day (powered site)
  • $125 Per vehicle per week (powered site)
  • $11 Per person in a vehicle other than a private car (e.g. Bus) per day
  • $11 Campers without vehicles per person per day

Due to telecommunications not being reliable in the area, visitors to Ravenswood should book their sites before they arrive to avoid disappointment.
