Greenvale

Greenvale is located 203 kilometres north of Charters Towers along the Gregory Development Road.  Greenvale is the home of the Three Rivers Hotel made famous by Slim Dusty with the song of the same name.

The township was built in the 1970s, opening its doors to mine workers when the Greenvale Nickel Mine opened in 1973.  The population of Greenvale today is 150, yet prior to the Greenvale Nickel Mine closing its doors in 1993, the township had a population roughly estimated to be 3000.

Greenvale is in the midst of gem fields and areas of valuable minerals.  The Lava Plains, approximately 80 kilometres north of Greenvale, has a designated fossicking area for those interested, although permission needs to be obtained from landowners.
