Operation Wanted - 113 animals desexed

Back

During June to August of this year, Council participated in the RSPCA Queensland’s ‘Operation Wanted’, which provided pet owners with a 20% discount for de-sexing their dog or cat.

Operation Wanted is a major annual desexing program run in collaboration with participating veterinary clinics and local councils.

During the campaign, the Charters Towers region had a total of 113 animals desexed, which included 73 dogs and 40 cats.

Acting Mayor Cr Sonia Bennetto said it’s a great initiative to help with the overpopulation of unwanted pets.

“The only way to stop backyard breeding and accidental litters is to desex our pets. It’s fantastic that we’ve had 113 pets desexed through Operation Wanted. I wish to thank the community for getting behind this great and responsible initiative.

“Each year, we have hundreds of unwanted pets in our region due to pet owners not doing the right thing. Owning a pet can provide great joy and companionship, but it does come with responsibility.

“If you’re unsure of what your obligations are, some very useful information is available on Council’s website. Otherwise, you are most welcome to talk with one of our Rangers.

“Council Rangers do a fantastic job in promoting responsible pet ownership and caring for neglected pets.”
