LDMG Moves to 'Stand Up'

25 January 2024 – 12:00pm

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to stand up today in response to Cyclone Kirrily.

With Cyclone Kirrily expected to cross the North Queensland coast between Townsville and Ayr and inland to Charters Towers during Thursday evening and into Friday, the message from the LDMG and Charters Towers Regional Council is clear: be prepared.

“My advice to everyone is to be prepared and follow the advice that is being made available,” Cr Beveridge said.

“We ask our community and surrounds to be prepared, and ensure you have your emergency kit and plan is ready. Our local SES volunteers have worked around the clock to have sandbags available to the community.’

Be proactive and protect yourself and family with these tips:

  • Keep up to date via the Charters Towers Regional Council Facebook page and the Charters Towers Emergency Dashboard CTRC Emergency Dashboard (charterstowers.qld.gov.au)
  • Review your emergency kit and plan
  • Fuel vehicles
  • Charge all devices
  • Tie down loose items around the house
  • Clear yards (including gutters) of green waste
  • Ensure all animals are safe and have access to clean water
  • Prepare a household emergency kit - https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/emergencykit
  • Consider removal of any pumps in waterways
  • Ensure any medical necessities are stocked or alternative resources are in place
  • Council encourages residents to refer to Council's Emergency Dashboard for updates on
