Photography Competition to showcase the Region

Council is inviting amateur photographers to enter the ‘Unearth our Secrets’ Photography Competition with images that celebrate their love of the Charters Towers Region.

Entrants are encouraged to submit images that depict our Region, be it our natural surrounds, our buildings, or our people.

The ‘Unearth Our Secrets’ theme, taken from our Tourism Destination Branding, encourages exploration and adventure in our diverse and rich Region.

Councillor Sonia Bennetto said that the Photography Competition is a great opportunity for the community to share photographs of what they love about the Charters Towers Region.

“Council is very excited to host the Photography Competition again this year, and hopefully showcase some amazing images of our Region,” said Councillor Bennetto.

Entries can be made in three categories:

  • People/personality
  • Buildings/architecture
  • Nature/landscape

The competition is free to enter, with winners of each category eligible to win a $500 cash prize.

“We are encouraging all residents and visitors (who reside in Queensland) to take part in this competition and submit their photographs.

“No matter your age or your photography skills, we would like to see a large variety of photographs from our community showing different perspectives of the theme ‘Unearth Our Secrets’,” continued Councillor Bennetto.

Photo competition finalists will be on display at The World Theatre from 21 – 30 April 2023, with the winners announced at the official Exhibition Opening from 6pm on Saturday, 22 April.

A ‘People’s Choice’ prize of $250 is on offer and will be awarded to the photograph which receives the most votes during the exhibition.

The competition closes 9am Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
