Charters Towers LDMG returns to Alert Status

Back

Charters Towers Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) returned to Alert status this morning after monitoring the flood level situation overnight.

LDMG are still encouraging all residents in the Charters Towers Region to avoid unnecessary travel and drive to the local road conditions if travel is necessary.

Charters Towers Council Mayor and LDMG Chair Frank Beveridge  has advised that there are currently several road closures in place around the Region:
•    Burdekin Falls Dam Road in Ravenswood is closed due to flooding
•    Hervey Range Road at Dotswood is flooded so use alternative route
•    Pajingo Road is closed to all traffic. Council officers will be inspecting and placing signs this afternoon.

Remember ‘if it’s flooded, forget it’

“If you do find yourself at a road closure, avoid driving around the barriers as they are there for your safety.”

Residents are also reminded to avoid swimming in streams, rivers and other waterways given the associated risks to health and safety associated with doing so.
