Charters Towers Regional Council has opened the next round of Community Grants for the 2020/2021 financial year.

Not-for-profit organisations in the region are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to $5,000.
The grants can be used for projects, events or services occurring between 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2020.

Cr Graham Lohmann, who oversees the ‘Community’ portfolio, said that by providing these grants Council will be able to support community groups to prepare for reengagement events and future programs after COVID-19.

“We know many community events had to be cancelled due to the pandemic response, which has created financial difficulties by so many organisations. We hope that the Community Grants can assist with organising new events and programs for the community.

“The Community Grants provide monetary and/or in-kind support to assist groups purchase equipment, upgrade facilities or reduce costs associated with running their events.

“In Round 2 last year, Council provided over $29,000 in Community Grants to different organisations,” said Cr Lohmann.

The last round of recipients included Towers Birdkeepers Inc, Towers Players, Charters Towers and District Pony Club, RSL Charters Towers Sub Branch, Pentland Race Club, Our Town Association, Charters Towers Excelsior Band, Dalrymple Landcare Committee, and Horse of the North Challenge.

Funding can be used towards activities, services or programs relating to the arts, recreation, sports and other community related initiatives. Applications that demonstrate the greatest benefit to the Region will be considered favourably.
