Council Reaffirms Commitment to Small Business Friendly Program

Back

Charters Towers Regional Council has re-signed the Small Business Friendly Commitment, renewing its dedication to backing local small businesses.

The Commitment, led by the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, is designed to support councils deliver real, measurable outcomes for small business communities in line with the Region’s newly adopted 2025-2030 Economic Development Strategy.

Originally signed in 2021, the updated version introduces a stronger action framework focusing on capability building, collaboration, and unlocking opportunities for local small businesses.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said the renewed Commitment reflects Council’s dedication to creating an ecosystem for small businesses to thrive and grow.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and this renewed commitment ensures we continue to support them in practical and meaningful ways,” Mayor Schmidt said.

“This Commitment helps us deliver practical support where it counts, connecting businesses with resources, advocating for their needs, and backing local ideas.”

As part of Council’s responsibilities under the program, it will deliver an action-focused plan, promote small business initiatives and report progress to the Queensland Small Business Commissioner to ensure transparency and accountability.

The Commitment also strengthens Council’s connections with a growing network of like-minded councils across Queensland, creating opportunities to share knowledge, form partnerships, and bring initiatives to the region like Renew Charters Towers.

Mayor Schmidt said the renewed focus on small businesses couldn’t come at a better time.

“This is about building a stronger future for our region, one that is driven by local people, local ideas, and local success stories,” added Mayor Schmidt.
