Charters Towers Regional Council is inviting residents, businesses, community groups, property owners, young people and visitors to help shape the future of the town centre through consultation on the Charters Towers CBD Master Plan.
Funded by the Queensland Government, the Charters Towers CBD Master Plan will establish a shared long-term vision to guide future growth, investment and revitalisation of the town centre.
As the cultural, civic and heritage heart of the region, the CBD plays an important role in community life, and Council is seeking feedback on what people value most, what could be improved and the priorities for its future.
The Master Plan will provide a strategic framework to support local businesses, attract visitors, enhance public spaces and strengthen the CBD as the heart of the community.
Mayor Liz Schmidt said the community’s input into the development of the master plan from the start is key to its success.
"The CBD belongs to everyone and it is essential that the community help create a shared vision for the future of the precinct.
"Whether you're a business owner, resident, visitor or someone who regularly spends time in the town centre, we want to hear what improvements you'd like to see in the future," Mayor Schmidt said.
Community members are invited to provide feedback on:
- What they love most about the CBD
- Areas that need improvement
- Public spaces and streetscapes
- Events and town centre activation
- Opportunities to support local businesses
- Local heritage and character
- Priorities for future investment and development
The community can get involved by completing an online survey, attending workshops and visioning sessions, visiting pop-up engagement activities, and reviewing the draft Master Plan as the project progresses.
Feedback gathered during this consultation phase will help inform the development of a draft Charters Towers CBD Master Plan, which will be released for further community feedback.
"This is a great opportunity to influence the future direction of the Charters Towers CBD and ensure the future plans reflect the wants and needs of our community."
“I encourage everyone to share their thoughts and feedback as experiences and local knowledge will help identify priorities and opportunities that will support a vibrant, welcoming and prosperous town centre for future generations", explained Mayor Schmidt.
The survey is open until Friday, 30 November 2026 and is available online and in hardcopy at Council’s Administration Centre, Excelsior Library and Visitor Information Centre.
