Charters Towers Regional Council is inviting the community to nominate the individuals, groups, organisations and events that have made a positive contribution to the region for the 2027 Australia Day Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding achievements across a range of categories, including community service, sporting achievement, cultural contribution and community events, while also celebrating young people who demonstrate leadership, inspire others, achieve excellence or make a meaningful difference within their communities.
Nominations are encouraged from across the region and provide an opportunity to acknowledge those whose dedication, achievements and contributions help strengthen the community and may otherwise go unrecognised.
Mayor Liz Schmidt said the Australia Day Awards were an important opportunity to acknowledge the people and organisations that contribute to the Region.
“Our community is strengthened by the many people who give their time, skills and energy to support others and contribute to our community.
“The Australia Day Awards provide an opportunity to recognise these achievements and contributions and celebrate the people, groups, organisations and events that make a positive difference across our Region.
“I encourage everyone to consider who deserves recognition and put forward a nomination for the 2027 Australia Day Awards,” continued Mayor Schmidt.
Award categories include:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Young Sportsperson of the Year
- Sports Administrator of the Year
- Cultural Person of the Year
