Strengthening Local Organisations Through Connection, Learning and Practical Support

Charters Towers Regional Council, in partnership with Volunteering North Queensland, is delivering free interactive hands-on information sessions designed to support local volunteers, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.

These hands-on sessions provide practical tools, useful insights and real-world strategies to strengthen local organisations, while also creating space for participants to share ideas, identify challenges and help shape future volunteer support across the region.

Whether you are part of a sporting club, arts and cultural group, community organisation or volunteer committee, these sessions are designed to deliver practical knowledge you can apply immediately.

We want to hear directly from local groups about what support is needed - whether that’s more volunteers, more funding, governance assistance or other challenges impacting your organisation.

Attendance is free, however registration is essential.

Workshop: Good Governance – What to Do After an AGM

Session 1

Time: 12:30pm – 2:30pm

Session 2

When: Thursday 4 June
Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Key Outcomes

Understand key responsibilities following an Annual General Meeting
Clarify committee roles and governance responsibilities
Learn practical steps to maintain compliance for incorporated associations and not for profit organisations
Build confidence in managing governance and reporting obligations

NFP Health Check checklist summary
Drill down action plan template to guide post AGM tasks
Direct links and guidance for using the Office of Fair Trading and ACNC resources

Workshop: Back to Basics Plan on a Page Strategic Snapshot

When: Friday, 5 June
Time: 8:30am – 10:30am

Key Outcomes

• Understand how to simplify strategic planning for volunteer organisations
• Learn how to identify priorities and turn them into achievable goals
• Build clarity and alignment within committees and leadership teams

Participants will receive

• Plan on a Page one page strategic planning template
• Simple priority setting framework for committees
• Example of a completed Plan on a Page for a community organisation
• Practical tips to turn ideas into clear actions
