Charters Towers Regional Council is inviting residents to share their views on local recycling services as part of planning for the future of waste and resource recovery across the Region.

To better understand current recycling habits, identify challenges residents may experience, and gather ideas for improving recycling services, Council is seeking input from the community via a survey.

The survey will also explore current waste management practices and gauge support for potential future initiatives, including the possible introduction of a kerbside recycling service and/or garden organics collection service.

Mayor Liz Schmidt is urging residents to take part in the survey and help shape the future of waste and recycling services across the Region.

"Council wants to hear directly from residents about what is working well, what could be improved, and what services they would like to see in the future.

"This feedback will help us better understand community expectations and priorities while ensuring future decisions are informed by community needs," Mayor Schmidt said.

The survey will provide valuable insights into community attitudes towards recycling and waste services, including views on potential service improvements and willingness to pay for additional services.

Feedback received will help Council:

  • Understand community satisfaction with current recycling services.
  • Identify barriers and challenges affecting recycling participation.
  • Determine community priorities for future recycling initiatives.
  • Assess support for potential kerbside recycling and garden organics services.
  • Gather evidence to support future service planning and decision-making.

Council is encouraging all residents to participate in the survey to ensure future planning reflects the priorities and expectations of the community.

Results of the consultation will be used to develop recommendations and inform planning and Council decision-making.

"Every piece of feedback helps build a clearer picture of the services our community values most.

"By working together, we can help make informed decisions about waste and recycling services that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits for the region," continued Mayor Schmidt.

The survey is open until Friday, 9 October 2026 and is available online and in hardcopy at Council’s Administration Centre and the Excelsior Library.
