2026 Youth Council – Applications now open
Published on 19 February 2026
The Charters Towers Youth Council is returning, giving young people aged 16–23 the chance to shape their community.
Up to 10 young leaders will be selected to represent their peers, act as ambassadors, and advise Council on projects, initiatives, and youth-focused issues.
Members will gain real-world experience in leadership, teamwork, local government, and community engagement. No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and commitment.
Cr Graham Lohmann said young people have fresh ideas and perspectives. The Youth Council ensures their voices are part of decisions shaping our region.
“The Youth Council gives young people a direct way to influence projects and services that matter most to them,” continued Cr Lohmann.
Members can nominate for Youth Mayor or Deputy Youth Mayor roles, taking on leadership responsibilities with guidance from Council staff through mentoring and training in governance, public speaking, and project management.
Whether passionate about events, youth services, or community wellbeing, members help create inclusive outcomes for young people across the region.
“Being part of the Youth Council is an incredible opportunity. Members can develop leadership skills while making a real difference locally.”
“This is their chance to speak up, be heard, and help shape the future of the Charters Towers region,” added Cr Lohmann.
Applications close 9am Monday, 23 March 2026. Step up, have your say, and make a difference for youth in the Charters Towers region.
