From Wednesday, 10 September, dispersal activities will take place daily from 5am to 8am until further notice.

  • Increased use of pyrotechnics will strengthen the program.
  • Targeted dispersal will continue across Charters Towers, including Lissner Park and Centenary Park.
  • Please keep noise-sensitive pets indoors during these times.

This period provides the best opportunity to safely and effectively relocate the Flying-Foxes. Council is continuing to relocate them away from the CBD and surrounding areas to the Sewage Treatment Plant.

If continued efforts cease, the Flying-Foxes are likely to remain in community open spaces for another 3–6 months before further dispersal activities can occur.

Council understands the dispersal may be unsettling for some community members, particularly those with PTSD or heightened sensitivities, and encourages anyone affected to take steps that help them feel comfortable.

We thank the community for your patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.
