Excelsior Library – Trial of Revised Opening Hours

Charters Towers Regional Council advises that the Excelsior Library will be trialling revised opening hours for a period of six (6) months, commencing Monday, 12 January 2026.

The trial follows feedback received through an extensive Library Hours and Services Survey, conducted over several weeks. The survey gathered input from a broad cross-section of the community, including regular and occasional library users, as well as groups who utilise the library for study, programs and events.

Trial Opening Hours

During the trial period, the Excelsior Library will operate as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 9.00am – 5.00pm
  • Wednesday: 9.00am – 6.00pm
  • Saturday: Closed

The survey findings identified opportunities to better align library opening hours with community usage patterns, particularly in relation to extended weekday access and designated closure days. Based on this feedback, Council has approved a six-month trial to assess the impact of the revised hours.

The trial will enable Council to monitor visitation levels, service delivery, staffing requirements and overall community satisfaction before considering any long-term changes.

Council encourages residents to visit the library during the trial period, make use of the available services, and share their feedback to help inform future decisions.
