Council is continuing its commitment to maintaining our cemeteries as peaceful, respectful resting places for loved ones.
Columbarium Wall Upgrade
With only a few niches remaining in the existing Columbarium Wall, construction has begun on an additional wall at the Charters Towers Lynd Highway Cemetery. The new wall will be rendered and painted, with the existing walls also receiving a fresh coat, ensuring the area remains a serene and well maintained space for families to visit.
Lawn Cemetery Improvements
Following community feedback and to support personal adornments, Council will be adding concrete pavers to the edge of the existing moulds in Section 65 of the Lawn Cemetery.
This design offers several benefits:
Works are scheduled to commence on Monday, 3 November 2025 and will continue until complete. Council will provide an update once works have been finalised.
Please note, some items may need to be temporarily moved during the works. Every care will be taken to return them to their place once pavers are installed. Families are also welcome to remove their items during this time if preferred.
Council can also assist with installing approved, fixed vases if desired (fees apply).
