Flying-foxes rest during daylight hours to conserve energy. Disturbance caused by noise, movement, spraying or harassment can:

❌ Weaken the animals
❌ Increase stress
❌ Encourage them to remain longer in a roost
❌ Cause unpredictable behaviour

Daytime disturbance can actually prolong their stay, rather than resolve the issue.

Council managed activities must follow strict timing, methods and animal-welfare rules under the Code of Practice. Unauthorised disturbance by individuals is not permitted.

If you’re concerned about flying-fox activity, the safest and most effective action is to leave them undisturbed and allow Council to manage the situation lawfully.
