Charters Towers Regional Council is calling on community members and stakeholders to have their say on the future of events, arts and culture in the Region.

Council has begun the process of reviewing their Events, Arts & Culture Plan to help set clear priorities and strategies to guide cultural development and investment for the next five (5) years.

The Plan is being developed through a consultant-led review funded by a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) initiative.

RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Charters Towers Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Mayor Liz Schmidt is encouraging the community to get involved and provide feedback to help create a Plan that is truly representative of our Region’s creative spirit.

“We want to hear from artists, performers, cultural organisations, educators, and anyone with a passion for events, arts and culture,” said Mayor Schmidt.

Utilising a short community survey and in person stakeholder consultation, the Plan will provide strategic direction to celebrate our heritage, support creative industries, and enrich community life.

As a first step in the review process, artists, cultural organisations, community groups, and interested community members, are asked to complete a short survey that has been developed to gain insight into the community’s values and vision for events, arts and culture within the region.

The survey will cover topics such as:

  • Community aspirations for events, arts and culture
  • Current participation in cultural activities and events
  • Barriers to engagement and access
  • Ideas for future programs, spaces, and events
  • Opportunities to support local artists and creative industries
  • Suggestions for partnerships and collaboration

The survey is open until Monday, 24 November 2025 and is available both online and in hardcopy at Council’s Administration Centre, Visitor Information Centre, and the Excelsior Library.

“Arts and culture can mean many things to many people, so the more people who provide input, the better our Plan will reflect the community’s creative aspirations, needs, and ambitions,” added Mayor Schmidt.

To complete the survey online, head to Council’s Have Your Say Portal  at haveyoursay.charterstowers.qld.gov.au.
