Flying-foxes are managed in accordance with the Queensland Code of Practice – Ecologically Sustainable Management of Flying-Fox Roosts, which ensures actions are:

✔ Humane
✔ Environmentally responsible
✔ Legally compliant

Council follows this framework alongside its own Flying-Fox Management Plan.

What can residents do (lawfully)?

✔ Install reflective or visual deterrents (such as shiny tape or wind-moved objects) in non-roost trees
✔ Modify vegetation around homes (outside active roosts)
✔ Reduce attractants like fruiting trees close to dwellings

Any actions must not disturb flying-foxes during the day or interfere with active roosts.

Flying-foxes are not unique to one location, they are found across the region and may move between townships depending on flowering events and weather conditions.
