Water Restrictions and Conservation

All Charters Towers Water Consumers are reminded of the following:

Non Restricted Watering

Handheld hoses can be used by all on any day and any time, but may not be left unattended.

Restricted Watering

For all other watering:

  • No sprinklers or fixed irrigation systems can be used on Mondays.
  • Odd numbered residences/premises have been allocated Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as watering days.
  • Even numbered residences/premises have been allocated Wednesday, Friday and Sunday as watering days.
  • Sprinklers and fixed irrigation systems can only be used between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00am.  This means that on the allocated watering day for your property, you can water 'Midnight to 8:00am' and '4:00pm to Midnight'.
  • No sprinklers or fixed irrigation systems are to be used between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm on any day.

The above information does not apply to recycled water or private bores.

Ravenswood—Water Restrictions

Water storages for Ravenswood water supply have been replenished and therefore the water restrictions in place for Ravenswood residents will be eased to Level 0 from Monday 3 August 2020 until further notice.

Level 0 water restrictions include:

Private Residences

  • Attended hand-held hoses permitted at any time
  • No watering using sprinklers/automatic drip systems permitted on Mondays
  • Odd Numbered residences may use sprinklers/automatic drip systems on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between the hours of 4pm and 8am
  • Even numbered residences may use sprinklers/automatic drip systems on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between the hours of 4pm and 8am

Public Gardens

  • Council owned gardens with planned watering regimes – sprinklers and automatic systems permitted every second day at any time
  • Attended hand-held hoses (including water truck spray bar) permitted at any time

Private gardens, public gardens and public areas – filling and topping up of ponds

  • No restrictions

Fountains

  • No restrictions

Paved areas – cleaning

  • No restrictions

Private swimming pools or spas – filling or topping up

  • Filling new pools – no restrictions
  • Existing pools may be topped up as per garden watering times

Farm dams and tanks – topping up

  • Water must not be used without the written permission of the Authority

Sports grounds / schools watering

  • Sprinklers permitted every second day between the hours of 4pm and 8am
  • For schools only;
    • morning watering may be varied to between 6am and 10am
    • afternoon watering may be varied to between 2pm and 6pm
  • Attended hand held hoses (including water truck spray bar) permitted at any time

Commercial market garden or plant nursery – watering of plants

  • No Restrictions

Mobile water tankers – filling

  • Water must not be used without the written permission of the Authority

Motor vehicle dealers’ vehicles – cleaning

  • Hoses must be fitted with a trigger control nozzle for cleaning vehicles by hand

Food transport vehicles – cleaning

  • No restrictions

Other vehicles – cleaning

  • Hoses must be fitted with a trigger control nozzle for cleaning vehicles by hand
  • No limitations apply to automatic car washing systems with water recirculation

Construction industry – use of water in construction

  • No restrictions

Any purpose (eg: State Government Authorities) not included in any other items other than for use inside domestic premises and for domestic farms and animals

  • Water must not be used outside those restrictions granted for “Private garden watering” (defined above) without the submission of a Water Management Plan and written approval of the Authority
