NQ Regional Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan

Following collaboration with the Townsville, Burdekin and Hinchinbrook Councils, business groups and local communities, the NQ Regional Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2014-2024 (PDF, 12mb) was finalised and adopted by Council at its General Meeting held 20 August 2014.  The Plan promotes waste avoidance, encourage efficiencies, maximise recycling and develop a framework that drives innovation and sustainability.

In efforts to align the regional focus with recent policy and legislative changes, as well as emerging trends, a regional decision was made in 2019 to develop a new waste strategy.  The new strategy comes at a fitting time, with the waste industry embarking on a transformative journey, supported by bold policy changes and funding opportunities provided by the Queensland government.
