Councillor message - Water Wise - Cr Alan Barr

Back

“With summer upon us, the demand for water is ever increasing. During the hotter months, Charters Towers Residents can demand up to 18 million litres of treated water per day.

That’s enough water to supply the average person drinking water for approximately 25,000 years (figures based on an average person drinking 2 litres per day).

I want to encourage residents, schools, businesses and state government premises to use water wisely, especially when watering lawns and gardens.

Charters Towers residents continue to be on base level 0 water restrictions, meaning no sprinklers or fixed irrigation systems can be used on Mondays.

Odd numbered residences/premises continue to have Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as watering days. Even numbered residences/premises continue to have Wednesday, Friday and Sunday as watering days.

Sprinklers and fixed irrigation systems can only be used before 8am and after 4pm on the allocated watering days. No sprinklers or fixed irrigation systems are to be used between the hours of 8am and 4pm on any day.

Handheld hoses can be used by all on any day and any time but may not be left unattended. Restrictions apply to businesses, state government premises, Council and residents.

For Schools and sportsgrounds, a variation applies allowing watering from 6am to 10am and 2pm to 6pm three days per week.

To avoid unexpected water levies residents should monitor usage by regularly checking their water meters.

Charters Towers residents can use the free MiWater website to monitor water consumption. It can help identify leaks and manage daily water usage. To sign up for MiWater visit charterstowers.miwater.co
