Charters Towers After School ProgrammeThe Move It NQ programme is aimed at supporting healthier and active lifestyles in North Queensland. The Charters Towers Move It programme will provide structured after-school sporting activities, aimed at getting youth active.

The programme will run 2 afternoons a week during term 3 and 4 2020 and term 1 2021. Move It Charters Towers activities may include cricket, AFL, soccer, basketball, tennis, hockey and tee-ball.

Cr Kate Hastie said this is a great initiative for our youth.

“The ‘Move It’ programme allows our youth to get out and be involved in organised sport at no cost to them or their family.

“Physical activity provides numerous health benefits including weight management, healthy bones and muscles, heart and lung health and reduces the risk of many chronic diseases. Regular physical activity also improves mental health and social well-being.

“I am passionate about all sports and being active. I want to encourage our youth to take advantage of this program and stay active,” said Cr Hastie.

The Move It programme will commence in July at Defiance Mill Park and is suitable for High School aged children. Signed parental permission is required for participation.

The Move It programme is funded from Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) in partnership with North Queensland Sports Foundation.
