New solar lights for Towers Hill

A total of 38 brand new solar lights have been installed along the Towers Hill walkway as part of the Towers Hill Lighting Project.

The lights have been designed and installed to the P4 lighting standard along the walking track to ensure pedestrian safety during the night.

A combination of solar overhead and bollard lights will run from dusk to dawn to allow the community to take advantage of the walkway at a time that suits their needs.

The overhead lights will operate at reduced intensity during the night, however, are motion activated and will operate at full intensity for pedestrians.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Charters Towers Regional Council had received more than $10.5 million across the three rounds of Works for Queensland, including almost $2 million from the COVID round.

“Now more than ever, the Works for Queensland program is helping Queenslanders unite and recover from this pandemic,” he said.

“Already, the Palaszczuk Government has supported or created almost 400 jobs through this Council alone.

“Projects such as this one are a great example of how local and state governments are in alignment when it comes to supporting our workforces.”

Mayor Frank Beveridge said the new lights are a fantastic addition to the walking track.

“Towers Hill attracts a lot of residents and visitors and these new lights are a fantastic addition to the facilities already on Towers Hill.

“The walking track is a great asset and is well used by the community. We hope these new lights will allow for even more users of the walking track,” said the Mayor.

Council was forced to upgrade the lights on Towers Hill after the lights that were installed in 2017 were heavily vandalised.

“With the design of these new lights and the installation of security cameras last year, we hope that these new lights will be well used for years to come,” Mayor Beveridge said.

The Towers Hill Lighting Project cost $280,000 and was fully funded by the Works for Queensland (W4Q) program, an initiative of the Queensland Government and supports regional Councils to undertake job-creating infrastructure projects.
