INF-L47 Illegal Dumping Officer

The Illegal Dumping Officer will play an instrumental role in implementing a holistic program of change around illegal dumping and the protection of our native ecosystems.  The role will coordinate with Council’s Environmental Services Coordinator, focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Charters Towers community in the delivery of high quality and accurate compliance and education program with an emphasis on driving change through education.

Employment Status:  Part Time (3 days per week), Limited Tenure (Up to 12 Months)

Award:                        Level 3 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award – State 2017

Salary Range:            $39.03 per hour


The successful candidate will have:

| Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |

  • High level of knowledge and understanding of legislation including the Environmental Protection Act, Local Government Act, Planning Act, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act, State Penalties Enforcement Act and other Acts relevant to the role.
  • High level of knowledge of the principles, concepts and challenges faced by illegal dumping in regional areas, with the ability to provide recommendations.
  • Highly experienced in critically reviewing, interpreting and analysing information including legislation, technical reports, standards and policies.
  • Sound time management skills including the ability to plan, prioritise and organise own work, achieve set and agreed performance and service standards and meet deadlines.
  • Highly experienced professional judgment and discretion to determine appropriate compliance action when work practices are available and not defined and in time pressured situations.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to engage with people from a range of backgrounds to raise awareness of evolving issues of illegal dumping.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service and understand customer needs, whilst professionally representing Council and working as part of a team.

| Essential Education/Qualifications |

  • Authorised Persons or ability to obtain.
  • Local Government Worker or ability to obtain.

| Essential Licences |

  • Possession and maintenance of a Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence
