Proudly organised by the North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF), the 2021 NQ Sportstar Awards recognise the efforts of the best sports people in North Queensland and aims to encourage them to go onto greater heights.

Terms & Conditions

Basis of Selection

Nominees for the North Queensland Sportstar Awards will be judged on their achievements and performances during the period of 1 October 2020 – 30 September 2021.  The following criteria in order of importance are used in the selection process:

  • International representation
  • National representation
  • State representation
  • Achievement over the period
  • Significance of achievement

Nomination Process

Nominations received by Council are considered by a panel where a finalist will be selected in each category (should nominees be of sufficient standard).

Each Council finalst will progress to the next stage where a panel appointed by the North Queensland Sports Foundation will determine the winners and runners-up.

The winners and runners-up will be announced at the NQ Sportsar Awards held in Charters Towers on Saturday 30 October, 2021.

The committee's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Nominations are considered by a panel appointed by the NQSF which determines the winners and runners up.

Services to North Queensland Sport

Nominees cannot be an employee within the sport they are being nominated for, nominees must be a volunteer.  Any remuneration must be disclosed on the nomination form.

Residency

A nominee is a resident of a town/city/shire if they consider the town/city or shire their primary place of residence. For example, several nominees are required to train and compete for extended periods internationally to compete at the level they have attained; however, they return to their permanent residence within their host local authority when in the NQSF region. Membership of local sports club/s or association/s assists proof of residency. North Queensland born Golf Star Karrie Webb is an example of a person who could not be nominated because she resides full time in another country.

Incomplete or Incorrect Applications

Any incomplete applications will not be processed.

Awards Presentation

Hosting the North Queensland Sportstar Awards is Charters Towers Regional Council in partnership with the North Queensland Sports Foundation in Charters Towers.

  • Date: Saturday 30 October 2021
  • Venue: Arthur Titley cnetre, 101 Mosman Street, Charters Towers
  • Time: 6pm Sharp
  • Dress: Cocktail
  • Format: Canapes (5pm at the World Theatre, 82-90 Mosman Street, Charters Towers) followed by Gala Dinner (5:45pm at the Arthur Titley Centre)
  • Guest: VIP Guest Speaker Steve Bradbury OAM Winter Olympic Gold Medallist, 4x Olympian.

MC: Glenn ‘Minty’ Mintern local radio announcer and entertainment by local artist ‘Karizma’.

Trophies & Prizes

Trophies are awarded to the Winners and Runners up in each category.

  • Junior: Winner receives $1,000 | Runner Up receives $500 (Under the age of 18 during the awards period)
  • Senior: Winner receives $2,000 | Runner Up receives $500 (18 years and over during the awards period)
  • Masters: Winner receives $500 | Runner Up receives $250
  • Athlete with a Disability: Winner receives $1,500 | Runner Up receives $500
  • Services to NQ Sports: Winner receives $500 | Runner Up receives $250
  • Teams: Winner receives $500 | Runner-up receives $250
