Faces and Places - Charters Towers: The Early Years
The Minjar Gold History & Heritage Fair will showcase some aspects of the region’s history, celebrating our heritage, diversity and creativity in bringing heritage to life at the Venus Gold Battery as part of the 150 Celebrations.
The day’s activities will provide opportunity to immerse yourself in our rich and diverse heritage, with demonstrations, exhibitions, displays, unique tours and more.
Gold will be a major focus of the day’s fun, with activities including gold panning and a Gold Rush, which will see participants searching for specially marked gold nuggets. The Ravenswood Gold Gold Rush will see entrants digging for gold in assigned plots, with the chance to win cool prizes for those who are lucky enough to find the specially marked nuggets.
To partake in the Gold Rush, those interested will need to purchase Miner’s Rights which will grant them a special mining licence, as well as being assigned a mining plot. Miner’s Rights will be available at a cost of $10 each, and can be purchased from Monday, 15 August 2022. Spaces are limited, so those wanting to get involved should get in quick.
Activities on the day will include family friendly entertainment, such as blacksmithing, wood turning, unique tours of the Battery, live music, markets and bush poetry, making it a great day out for the entire family.
