Charters Towers Regional Council is working hard towards maximising the potential of the region so as to ensure a diversified and vibrant economy, the catalyst for a healthy, thriving, sustainable and attractive community in which to live, work and visit.

Under Queensland Law, with the exception of certain specified development, development is not lawful unless the approval of Council and in some circumstances, other Government Agencies, is obtained prior to commencement.

Meaning of Development

Development is defined by the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 as follows:-

"S5 - development is any of the following:

1. carrying out building work;
2. carrying out plumbing and drainage work;
3. carrying out operational work;
4. reconfiguring a lot;
5. making a material change of use of premises."
