Building Services
Building Applications
If you are planning to undertake building works, it will be necessary for you to obtain a development permit from Council.
The application forms for such permit are available in the Application Forms section.
Charters Towers Regional Council has a Licensed Building Surveyor on staff to provide a building certification service on behalf of Council.
Council staff accept building applications and undertake supporting administrative processes throughout the week.
Please note that in some circumstances, a building or plumbing Development Permit cannot be issued until Planning Scheme approvals are in place.
For information on the type of Development Approvals required or for information on the Development Approval process, please contact Regulatory Services on phone 07 4761 5544.

Siting Relaxation
Council's Planning Scheme specifies minimum criteria for design and siting standards. Default provisions are also specified in Part 1.0 of The Queensland Development Code.
The Standards must apply unless Council approval to relaxation is granted. A "Siting Variation Application Form" to relax these Standards must be submitted to Council accompanied by specific details of the reasons as to why a relaxation is required.
Payment of fees in the sum of $69.00 is also required.

Building near or over Council Services or Easements
When constructing near or over Council services or easements (i.e. sewerage mains, water mains, stormwater pipes etc.), Council approval is first required.
Generally, Council's requirements in relation to such matters are that all structures are to be located a minimum of two (2) metres clear of the service and no structures are to be built over Council easements.
The reason for this is that adequate protection against damage to infrastructure must be afforded and adequate access must be available for maintenance and repair of same.
For further information on building near or over Council services or easements, email the Regulatory Services Department at mail@charterstowers.qld.gov.au or contact Council.
