Since working at CTRC for the past 2+ years I am amazed at the opportunities I have had for self-development and the positions I have filled. I find I am constantly engaged and learning new things about my role and the role Council plays in the community. As a key part of my job is community-focused, it is quite fulfilling to find ways in which I can educate customers of their responsibilities and endeavour to create a better community.

I have worked with the Council for over 26 years, firstly with the Charters Towers City Council for 21 years and the past few years with the amalgamated Charters Towers Regional Council. There are still quite a few staff employed with CTRC from the days prior to amalgamation, so I am not the only one that has been around for a long time!! I came to Council because I was seeking secure employment and an opportunity for career and personal development.
Back in 1988, when I commenced employment, I had a very upmarket electronic typewriter and carbon paper for duplicates, (now showing I am really still a working dinosaur), and now technology has advanced amazingly. I still take pride in providing services to the rate payers and the community and have not lost the personal interaction with the public being a Customer Service Officer. I enjoy working at City Hall as I have the opportunity to provide the public with services in a vast array of areas. I also have the chance to promote the City as many tourists wander in and out of the magnificent City Hall building, intrigued with its architecture.
Council has given me the chance to be part of a great team in providing assistance to the local citizens and the wider community. Seriously, I look forward to going to work each day, as everyday provides a new challenge and no day is ever the same. The many challenges we face predominately end with a rewarding outcome. Over the years I have been lucky to work with amazing people and gain experiences from their knowledge. These experiences have provided me with a sense of direction and accomplishment in supporting Council's service to the community.

I came to Council looking for stability and an environment conducive to the workings of family life. It was my first job and I have now been with council for nine (9) years. Council has supported and equipped me with the appropriate tools to strive for excellence in the service that I provide for Council and the wider community. I joined the Council's team 14 years ago. I felt it would be a challenging position and that it would guarantee my family's security within Council's work force. I believe as employees of Council we are encouraged to not only see Council as not just a place to do work, but a place to thrive and be supported in all we do both personally and professionally.
In my role with Council I am very privileged to work with a great team of people, whom after working for so many years with, I consider family, the team has a strong sense of trust and mutual respect for each other. Since first starting with Council I have had the opportunity to further my career and gain experience and qualifications in a variety of positions. I strive to offer good service to our community and I strongly agree with Council's motto "Exceptional Service for an Exceptional Community.

Anita Fry - Visitor Information Centre Coordinator
I commenced with Council working for Community Services as Council's Youth Services Officer in 2012 and worked closely with Planning and Sustainable Development, Community Development, Events Coordination and Youth Development in the region. During this time, as professional development, I pursued some opportunities for studying that Council offered while working. I am currently working in the position as Visitor Information Centre Coordinator and now have my dream job in the tourism sector. I work closely with a team of 38 volunteers and 3 other staff who provide a range of visitor services for the region.
I have been lucky enough to have opportunities to travel, learn and be involved in organising local events and meeting countless people in the course of my work with the Charters Towers Regional Council. I have found the challenges of the position rewarding and enjoy opportunities to coordinate and provide training and induction for new volunteers. I am excited to continue my role as Visitor Information Centre Coordinator and anticipate being heavily involved in sustainable tourism development and the promotion of our Region's great assets.
