Ravenswood

Council allows camping at the Ravenswood Showgrounds/Camping Reserve subject to conditions. To preserve the environment and amenity of the area, users of the camping grounds must abide by the following conditions:

  1. A person is not permitted to stay for a period greater than three (3) months in a period of four (4) consecutive months without the special permission of Council.
  2. No pre-bookings are required. Settle in and relax, then our friendly caretaker will be around to collect your fees.
  3. Parking/Camping is only allowed in the space allocated by the Caretaker.
  4. A person who occupies a caravan in the Reserve shall:
    1. keep such caravan and the allocated area of land in a clean and sanitary condition;
    2. deposit all refuse in the receptacles provided for the purpose;
    3. dispose of all liquid waste as directed by the Caretaker;
    4. maintain all sanitary conveniences in a clean and sanitary manner; and,
    5. provide clean and sufficient sleeping accommodation in such caravan.
  5. A person shall not create a public nuisance of any kind.
  6. A person shall not light nor maintain a fire in the open air except at a fireplace approved by the Caretaker.
  7. The fees are as follows:-
    1. $15.00 per day per site
    2. $75.00 per vehicle per week (powered sites)
    3. $5.00 per person in a vehicle other than a private car (e.g. Bus) per day
    4. $5.00 campers without vehicles per person per day.

Macrossan

Council allows camping free of charge at Macrossan camping grounds off the Flinders Highway, subject to conditions.

To preserve the environment and amenity of the area, users of the camping grounds must abide by the following conditions:

  1. A person is not permitted to stay for a period greater than one (1) week in a period of four (4) calendar weeks without the special permission of Council.
  2. No camping within eight (8) metres of any buildings, fixtures or other infrastructure.
  3. The operation of unregistered vehicles in the camping ground is forbidden.
  4. Rubbish must be deposited in receptacles provided or removed from the camping ground.
  5. Wastewater must not be discharged in any area of the camping ground. It is an offence to discharge wastewater on this or any other non-licensed lands. The nearest approved wastewater discharge facility is located at the Columbia Poppet Head, Flinders Highway, Charters Towers. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Visitor Information Centre on phone 07 4761 5533.
  6. Use of the camping ground by the public is restricted to authorised areas only. Due to the nature of the environment, potential for injuries exists and Council accepts no responsibility to any person for any damage to or loss of property or any injury caused, contributed or sustained by that person whether caused by others, concealed dangers or other cause whatsoever.
  7. No dogs except on leash.
  8. No firearms or archery.
  9. No motorbikes.
  10. No open fires.

Fletcher

Council allows camping free of charge at Fletcher Creek camping grounds off the Gregory Developmental Road, Charters Towers, subject to conditions.

To preserve the environment and amenity of the area, users of the camping grounds must abide by the following conditions:

  1. A person is not permitted to stay for a period greater than four (4) calendar weeks in a period of two (2) consecutive months without the special permission of Council.
  2. No camping within eight (8) metres of any buildings, fixtures or other infrastructure.
  3. Vehicles of any description are not permitted to be parked or operated in areas between the Creek Bank and Bollards.
  4. The operation of unregistered vehicles in the camping ground is forbidden.
  5. Rubbish must be deposited in receptacles provided or removed from the camping ground.
  6. Wastewater must not be discharged in any area of the camping ground other than at the Approved Wastewater Discharge Facility located adjacent to the Public Amenities on this site. It is an offence to discharge wastewater on this or any other non-licensed lands. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Visitor Information Centre on phone 07 4761 5533.

Rest Stops

Council services amenities buildings at various locations throughout its jurisdiction (Campaspe, Belyando, Mingela, Christmas Creek) for the convenience of the travelling public. These areas are rest stops only, and in most cases the maximum stay is 20 hours unless signed otherwise.
