Mayor Message - Christmas - Mayor Liz Schmidt

“As the year draws to a close and with Christmas upon us, it’s a time to celebrate with family and friends and relax before the new year ahead.

New Year brings with it a time for reminiscing the great times and maybe learning lessons from the year gone. Resolutions are set with a determination to keep.

We’ve had a big year at Council, with many projects started and completed:

  • In May of this year, work began on the Water Infrastructure Upgrade Project (WIUP) to secure our region’s water supply, our lifestyle and attract development and agriculture opportunities.
  • The new proposed Regional Planning Scheme was submitted to for State Interest Review and will be made available for public consultation in the new year.
  • The Smart Cities initiative has recently started and will continue in the new year, with completion set for mid-2019.

In the new year there will be many more things to come and with the support and trust of the community we will use 2019 to implement these long-term developments to ensure our region is ready for future growth.

On behalf of Councillors Sonia Bennetto, Mike Power, Graham Lohmann, Bernie Robertson, Alan Barr and Roma Bailey and all Staff, I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and enjoy.”

- Mayor Liz Schmidt
