Council Assists State High Teachers with Industry Placement

Charters Towers State High School teachers, Leigh Middleton and Simon Pankhurst were welcomed at Council’s Administration Centre recently as part of their Industry Placement.

Industry placement provides an opportunity for teachers to maintain industry currency to teach Vocational Education courses and provides teachers a means to link the work environment to the student learning environment.

Information Technology Officer, Jason Smith shows State High Teacher, Simon Pankhurst Council's new satellite phone.

The placement also allowed the teachers to gain valuable insight and experience as part of current studies they’re undertaking.  Mr Middleton is currently studying a Certificate II in Business and Mr Pankhurst is studying a Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology.

Mr Middleton worked closely with administration staff during his two days of placement, which allowed him to experience administration duties and customer service.

Mr Pankhurst worked with Council’s IT and media team, which allowed him to attend onsite visits, work with new technology and gain an insight into Council’s workflows.
CTSHS’s Senior Secondary Head of Department, Sharon Hackman received great feedback from staff. “Our teachers came back with glowing reports of how great the team is at Council and how exceptionally professional they all were.” said Ms Hackman.
