Christmas Message from the Mayor

What a wonderful time of year. As the year draws to a close and with Christmas upon us, it’s a time to celebrate with family and friends and relax before the new year ahead.

As we celebrate with loved ones this Christmas time, we should take some time to help those less fortunate, even if it’s just a smile to lift someone’s day or to volunteer our time.

New Year brings with it a time for reminiscing the great times and maybe learning lessons from the year gone. Resolutions are set with a determination to keep.

We’ve had a big year at Council, with many changes, including welcoming our new CEO, Aaron Johansson and others moving on to other things. Together we are working to better our Region.

The new year will bring more changes. A significant milestone is the restructure of our organisation. This restructure will allow us to serve the Community even better and it’s my commitment to ensure that; as a council organization; we appreciate that we are servants of our Community and that all levels of Council are accountable, transparent, outcomes-driven and make the most of our Ratepayer’s dollars.

As a Council, we have reached our half way mark. We have come a long way and have a long way to go to meet the expectations of this amazing Community. With your support and trust we will use our second half to build and reinforce the Council and work in the best interest of the Community.

During this holiday season, I will be spending some much-needed time with my family and friends and will be looking forward to the year ahead.

To allow Council Staff to be home with their family and friends during the Christmas season, all Council offices will be closed as of 12pm, 22 December, until 2 January 2018. If you have an emergency that requires someone from Council to assist you, you can call 4761 5300.

On behalf of Councillors Sonia Bennetto, Mike Power, Graham Lohmann, Brett Maff, Alan Barr and Roma Bailey and all Staff, I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and enjoy.
