Charters Towers famil for Chinese visitors

Charters Towers Regional Council Mayor Frank Beveridge took on the role of tour guide on Saturday when representatives from Fushan City in China visited Charters Towers.

Cr Beveridge hosted Mr Huang (Frank) Songbin and Ms Yu (Iris) Minimin from Townsville’s sister city in China (Foshan City). Accompanying them was Townsville City Council’s economic development manager Simon Millock and his wife Allison.

Cr Beveridge said he was delighted to host the visitors.

“Council takes every opportunity to promote Charters Towers and the region and this was one of these occasions,” Cr Beveridge said.

The group visited the Visitor Information Centre, Towers Hill Lookout, Dalrymple Saleyards and Equestrian Centre, the airport, The Burdekin Weir and Venus Battery.

Lunch was enjoyed at Henrys Restaurant before the visitors departed, visiting Bivouac Junction Holiday Park and Virginia Park on their way back to Townsville.

Mr Songbin is an official from the Foshan Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs. He will be spending several days in Townsville and will make presentations to the North Queensland Economic Development Practitioners and to Townsville City Council staff.

Cr Beveridge said the visitors were very interested in the tourism and industry aspects of Charters Towers.
