Animal control a big problem for the Towers

Australia Post recently announced 281 dog encounters with posties last financial year. Dogs big and small make it very difficult for the postie to safely deliver mail.

In Charters Towers, Council receives, on average, one report each day regarding dogs chasing or attacking local posties. Reports of dog encounters also extend to the wider community, with many residents feeling threatened by uncontrolled or wandering dogs.

Residents can do their part to assist not only the postie but the community by following a few simple steps.
•    Ensure your dog cannot fit any part of their body under, over or through the fence.
•    Ensure the gate is closed.
•    Secure your dog away from the letterbox and front door.
•    Keep your dog away from the front door when accepting a delivery.
•    When walking your dog, ensure it’s on a lead at all times.

For more information on responsible dog ownership, call Council on 4761 5300 or visit www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/pound
