Flying Fox Advisory Committee opens meeting to community

The Charters Towers Flying Fox Advisory Committee (FFAC) is inviting the community to attend its meeting in April.

During the community meeting, the FFAC will provide up-to-date information on the actions of the Committee and the ongoing management of flying foxes.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said this is a great opportunity for the community to hear what is being done. “We want to bring the community into the room, so they can receive an update and hear what the plans are for the future.

“The community will be able to ask questions of the committee and find out what we’ve been discussing over the past 10 months.”

The Flying Fox Advisory Committee was established in 2018 to provide recommendations to Council to address the issues required to manage the significant negative impact of Flying Foxes in the region.

Members of the Committee include Mayor Liz Schmidt, Cr Roma Bailey, Council senior staff, Mr Robbie Katter MP (Member for Traeger), Hon Bob Katter MP (Member for Kennedy), members of the community, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Department of Environment and Science (DES).

“I want to encourage the community to come to the special meeting, so they can hear firsthand what we’re doing.  We have a long way to go, however, we have a plan forward and hope to share this with the community.

“We’ll also provide information from the experts and share some of the hurdles we face in managing flying fox and how the community can help.

“Mr Robbie Katter MP and I will make ourselves available for questions from the community,” said Mayor Schmidt.
