Please note the following in respect to the pre-poll voting (in person) and the commencement thereof for the Charters Towers Region.

In person pre-poll voting commences for the Charters Towers Region on
Monday 14 March 2016
at the RSL 8 Prior Street, Charters Towers

Office hours will be:
Monday 14 March 2016 - Thursday 17 March 2016
(9:00am to 5:00pm)
Friday 18 March 2016
(9:00am to 6:00pm)

As previously advised, all enquiries in respect to the Local Government Elections should be referred to Mr Ron Wheeler, Returning Officer for the Charters Towers Regional area and can be contacted on telephone 0476 830 205.



Nominations have now opened for the 2016 Local Government Elections. Nominations close at 12 Noon, Tuesday 16 February, 2016.

All enquiries in respect of the election process, nominations and other should be directed to the Returning Officer, Mr Ron Wheeler, at the RSL, 8 Prior Street, Richmond Hill QLD 4820, mobile 0476 830 205.

The 2016 Local Government Elections will be held on Saturday 19 March, 2016.

Advice in relation to Attendance Voting in the 2016 Local Government Election

  • If people are unsure whether they are on the roll, please contact the Queensland Electoral Commission:

  • Pre-polling will be available at the RSL, for one week only, prior to the election date.
  • For people wanting information in respect to the role of a Mayor and/or Councillor please refer to the Department of Local Government’s website:

  • General information in respect to Local Government Quadrennial Elections can be found on the Electoral Commission of Queensland’s website:

  • Please note that electors cannot vote in another local government area.
  • Electors who are not going to be around on Election day may apply for a postal vote on the Electoral Commission of Queensland’s website or do a pre-poll vote when advised.
  • All voting in the Charters Towers Region, is by attendance at polling booths.  The locations of the polling booths will be at the Council Administration Centre, 12 Mosman Street, Goldfields Cricket Club, York Street and at Richmond Hill State School, Baker Street.
  • Polling booths will also be located in Pentland at the State School and in Ravenswood at the State School.
