New Director set to encourage investment and invigorate the regional economy
The local economy is one of the first items on the “to-do” list for Council’s new Director of Planning and Community Services, David Metcalfe.
Mr Metcalfe has spent the past 3 years with Townsville City Council, working as the Major Projects Advisor and as Acting Director of Planning and Major Projects. He has extensive experience in planning and design in the private sector across Northern Australia and with multinational corporations working in the Middle East and North Africa.
He is excited by our region’s future economic development and country lifestyle. “I am delighted to be here, so much so that my wife and I have decided to purchase a property and establish our home in Charters Towers. I am looking forward to being an active member of the community.”
As part of his responsibilities, Mr Metcalfe will oversee planning and community services, including, planning, economic development, rural services, environmental services, tourism and Council facilities. He will also oversee the development of Council’s new planning scheme, including the Local Government Local Infrastructure Plan (LGIP).
The LGIP will identify Council’s development infrastructure that is necessary to service the growing community in a coordinated, efficient and financially sustainable manner.
“We want to provide enhanced delivery of planning and community services to the region.” said David Metcalfe, Director Planning and Community Services.
“I want to create a realistic, practical and easy to use framework that encourages investment and invigorates the regional economy. There is an opportunity to make a difference in the community that is poised on the brink of an exciting period of economic development and enhanced prosperity.”
Council welcomed Mr Metcalfe to his new role on Monday 26 February.
